eBay’s Virtual Festival – A Celebration of Success!

eBay, via Remarkably, a creative marketing and learning consultancy dedicated to helping clients become more human, open, inclusive, sustainable, and enduring.


The Challenge

eBay tasked us with a pretty epic mission. They needed an internal festival-style event to celebrate the successful launch of their in-house payment system. This global party had to run across multiple time zones with a secure login for worldwide delegates. The brief was meticulously crafted with a demand for a vibrant sense of fun to permeate every aspect: from the event platform and immersive 3D environment to each engaging content interaction.


Having a clear and compelling purpose and understanding what experience you want your audience to have, is essential to creating a lasting impact from your event.

The Yoonity Solution

After spending time developing the event strategy and building the 3D environment, we delivered a 24-hour internal staff festival/party/conference in three time zones, fully integrated into a 3D environment using the combined platform capability of both Yoonity Connect and Explore. 

Attendees entered using a custom event map and were greeted with a welcome intro by the CEO of eBay, transporting them straight into the festival style atmosphere. When inside, reality blurred with oversized props and engaging content sprinkled throughout the event to enthuse, engage and excite attendees!

Highlights of the virtual festival included ‘digital swag’ download areas, a photo booth with custom frames, stickers, overlays, a wellness area, and a live music performance by the winner of eBay’s internal talent competition. Attendees could also visit the ‘Sellers Tent’, which told success stories of early adopters of eBay’s payment system and included QR codes for people to visit their online stores.

The integration of the photo booth app and in-platform networking were particularly praised, as the teams were able to bond and share experiences from across the globe.

When it was time for the party, we transported all virtual attendees to the main stage where we hosted a live set with DJ Fat Tony, allowing them to get their groove on with some informal mingling amongst colleagues and partners. If they missed out, or they wanted to listen again, they could download this exclusive set post-event.



We teamed up with Velvet Badger, a specialist full-service design and motion agency, to create the environment design. We then crafted this design into a fully interactive world on the Yoonity platform.


The event was a huge success! Over 1,100 colleagues across three time zones attended the event and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees praised the interactivity of the platform, with many even saying they felt like they’d been transported to an actual festival. Mission accomplished!
